Diamond Pet Foods, owned by Schell & Kampeter Inc., has built a reputation for providing premium pet food at an affordable price. Since its inception in 1970, Diamond has been committed to developing new and innovative products to ensure that pets receive the best nutrition possible.

The History of Diamond Pet Foods

Diamond Pet Foods started as a small animal feed production in Meta, Missouri. Despite humble beginnings, the company quickly gained traction and focused on producing high-quality pet food exclusively. The name "Diamond" came about when a hunter remarked that the dog food made his pet's coat shine like a diamond.

From facing financial challenges to becoming a billion-dollar business, Diamond Pet Foods has come a long way. With a revenue of $1.5 billion in 2020, Diamond is now one of the top pet food companies globally.

A Family Legacy

The second generation of the Kampeter family, Michael, Tommy, and John, joined their father's business in 1985. They played crucial roles in expanding the company's distribution and client base. Michael's son, Trey, represents the third generation of Kampeters, ensuring the family legacy continues.

Expanding Across the Country

To meet the growing demand for their products, Diamond Pet Foods opened additional facilities across the United States. In 1999, a plant was established in Lathrop, California. Four years later, another plant was built in Gaston, South Carolina. In 2013, Diamond added another plant in Ripon, California, further enhancing its manufacturing capabilities.

A Diverse Product Lineup

Diamond Pet Foods boasts a diverse range of products, including Diamond Naturals, Diamond CARE, and Diamond Pro89. Additionally, Diamond owns other popular brands like Taste of the Wild, NutraGold, and Nutra-Nuggets. Moreover, Diamond serves as a manufacturer for various private label pet food brands.

A History of Recalls

Like any reputable company, Diamond Pet Foods has faced recalls in the past. While this may cause concern, it's essential to note that Diamond has taken responsibility for any issues and has made significant improvements in their safety protocols.

One notable recall occurred in December 2005 when pet food manufactured in Diamond's South Carolina plant was found to be contaminated with aflatoxin, resulting in pet illnesses and deaths. Diamond promptly addressed the situation and implemented stricter testing and monitoring protocols.

A Commitment to Quality

Diamond Pet Foods remains committed to providing pet owners with high-quality products. The company continues to invest in research and development to ensure that pets receive optimal nutrition.
