Eligibility and Age Categories
To get your hands on an Interrail Pass, you must be a resident of one of the European Economic Area countries or any of the additional listed countries. While European residents can opt for the Interrail Pass, those residing outside Europe can choose the Eurail Pass instead. The Interrail Pass offers three age categories: Child Pass (for unaccompanied travelers under 12), Youth Pass (for travelers aged 27 and under), Adult Pass (no age limitation), and Senior Pass (for travelers over 60).
Types of Interrail Pass
Interrail offers two main types of passes: the Interrail Global Pass and the Interrail One Country Pass. The Global Pass allows unlimited rail travel between all participating countries, while the One Country Pass provides unlimited rail travel within one European country. Interrail Global Pass
Countries in which the Interrail Global Pass is valid
The Interrail Global Pass is your gateway to adventure across a wide range of European countries. It covers Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Great Britain, Hungary, Republic of Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Montenegro, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, and Turkey.
Please note that the pass excludes railways in Albania, Belarus, Moldova, Russia, and Ukraine. Additionally, there are no railways in Andorra, Cyprus, the Faroe Islands, Gibraltar, Iceland, Malta, or San Marino. However, there are alternative transport options available for these locations.
Interrail One Country Pass
If you have a specific European country in mind, the Interrail One Country Pass is perfect for exploring its unique charms. You can choose from Austria, Benelux, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Greek Islands, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and Turkey.
For those living in Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands, the Benelux Pass is available. It is valid in the two countries other than your country of residence.
Reservations for High-Speed and Night Trains
TGV seating
While local and regional trains usually do not require reservations, high-speed, international, and night trains may require them. These reservations come with additional benefits such as guaranteed seat availability, meals, drinks, free Wi-Fi, and access to first-class lounges. You can make reservations at the station, on the rail-company website, through the Rail Planner app, or at a travel agency.
Some notable high-speed trains that may require reservations include Eurostar, Thalys, TGV, Trenitalia, AVE, ICE, and SJ, among others. Night trains also often require reservations, including sleeping accommodations like couchettes and sleeper cars.
DiscoverEU - Unlocking Europe for Young Travelers
In addition to the Interrail Pass, there's another exciting initiative called DiscoverEU. This program provides 15,000 young people with the opportunity to travel around Europe, exploring its cultural heritage and connecting with other passionate travelers.
