The journey of Marco Polo Hotels began with the Hong Kong Hotel in 1970, a joint venture with Hongkong Land, Hui Sai-fun, and Chung Ming-fai. As Wharf's first venture into the hotel industry, it paved the way for the Harbour City complex, which opened in 1982.
