The Points Guy (TPG) is not just your average travel website and blog. It's your ultimate companion to unlocking the world of travel, maximizing your airline points and miles, understanding credit cards, and staying up-to-date with the latest in travel news. Founded in 2010 by Brian Kelly, TPG has grown to become a trusted source for all things travel-related.

A Journey through History

Before TPG came to fruition, Brian Kelly worked as an IT recruiter at Morgan Stanley. During that time, he realized the potential of travel reward points and started assisting colleagues in maximizing their returns. In 2010, Brian launched The Points Guy blog, where he shared his knowledge and expertise on frequent flyer miles, credit card points, and travel goals.

TPG quickly gained popularity, and in 2012, it was acquired by Bankrate, a renowned financial content publisher. Despite the acquisition, Brian Kelly maintained 100% editorial control over TPG. The subsequent years saw TPG expand its reach by acquiring three competing websites: Million Mile Secrets, Mommy Points, and Travel is Free.

Empowering Travel for a Greater Cause

TPG not only strives to enhance your travel experiences but also believes in giving back. In 2016, TPG launched Points for Peace, a partnership with the nonprofit PeaceJam Foundation. Through this initiative, frequent flyer miles are donated to facilitate Nobel Peace Prize winners in traveling to developing countries.

Recognized Influence and Red Ventures Acquisition

In recognition of his profound impact on the travel industry, Brian Kelly was named the top influencer for travel by Forbes in 2017. That same year, Bankrate was acquired by Red Ventures, a leading digital marketing company. Today, The Points Guy operates from offices in Austin, Charlotte, New York, and London, further solidifying its presence in the travel world.

Unveiling the TPG App and Legal Battles

In September 2021, TPG introduced its app, allowing users to conveniently track their airline points and miles across multiple airlines. However, this move was met with a legal challenge from American Airlines. TPG preemptively sued American Airlines, seeking legal authorization to manage frequent flyer data on a third-party website. In response, American Airlines filed a lawsuit, alleging trademark infringement and violation of the terms of their frequent flyer program.

Unlocking the World of Travel

At the heart of TPG's business model lies its partnerships with leading credit card companies, including Citi, Bank of America, Chase, and Capital One. The revenue generated through marketing fees helps fuel TPG's operations, enabling them to continue providing valuable content and services to travel enthusiasts like you.

With TPG by your side, you can embark on unforgettable journeys, make the most of your travel rewards, and stay informed about the ever-changing landscape of travel. Let The Points Guy be your trusted companion as you explore the world, one adventure at a time.
